WhatsApp Pay Gear Up for All India Roll-out; Fresh Hiring for Jobs Starts

WhatsApps payment application WhatsApp Payments (WhatsApp Pay) is seeking collaboration with banks and financial institutions for countrywide roll-outs after RBI approved it's graded roll-out plan. The phased roll-out of WhatsApp Pay across India will create fresh job opportunities and there is going to be increased hiring of technical and non-technical workers.

At present WhatApp has 200 million users in India and substantial numbers at the rural areas, Tier II and Tier I cities where WhatsApp Pay plans to reach and offers multiple financial solutions---from micro-credits to micro- health insurance. However, the RBI has only given permission to reach 20 million users in the first phase of roll-out.

Part of the social media giant Facebook, WhatsApp is in top gear to launch WhatsApp Pay and already partnered with the five top banks in India for the UPI (Unified Payments Interface) play. They are: ICICI bank, Axis Bank, the State Bank of India, HDFC bank and Jio Bank.

Abhijit Bose, WhatsApp's India head is confident of WhatsApp Pay launch of affordable small sized health insurance by end of this year and several others financial services.

The NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) data for the UPI transaction of Nov 2020 reveals that 3,10,000 transactions worth Rs 13.87 Cr has been done by WhatsApp Pay.
